Mark 12:35-44
Does Jesus every challenge you? Does He ever cause you to look deeper at yourself? If you have a relationship with Him the answer is yes. Jesus doesn't just accept the status quo.. not in the religious types of his day nor in us. Jesus is constantly asking us to look at our heart, to evaluate, and is constantly show us us a better way. Today is one of those texts that challenges us... challenges us evaluate ourselves, to look deeper... to examine... to repent... to look to Jesus... and be changed.
Last week we talked about what Jesus called the most important commandment... loving God with our everything and the second is like it loving our neighbor as ourself. Today we are going to see two contrasts. We are going to see a group of people who rather than being overwhelmed by God's for love them and and spilling over into love for God and others they are selfish, rigid, and use religion as a weapon... and we are going to see one of their possible victims. We are going to see a greedy group, and a generous lady. We are going to see a group that spent their lives taking from others and using God and people to get what they wanted and we are going to see a lady that gave all.
