What is there in your life today that if Jesus asked you to leave it behind or if it was removed from your life it would cause you to walk away from Jesus? What would you rather have than Jesus? Another way to phrase that is... what could keep you from receiving the Kingdom of God?

This is the question this text today begs us to ask. It's a question of idolatry. You see in the two passages we have to look at today we see great contrast. We have an example of receiving and an example of trying to earn it. With one passage Jesus teaches us what receiving the Kingdom of God should look like and in another we see what rejecting it looks like. In one picture we see what it should look like to trust and follow Jesus. In another we see the tragedy of what it looks like to walk away from him. I And in it we learn something about ourselves and the sinful tendencies that we must avoid by grace.

The Children
10:13-16- And they were bringing children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples rebuked them. 14 But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, ''Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. 15 Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.'' 16 And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them.

So Jesus is out teaching and people start bringing children to Jesus to bless them. This was a common practice, to bring your child to the rabbi and have him say a blessing over them. The disciples are bothered by this. Why? Likely they saw this as a hinderance, a burden, clutter. ''Jesus has important things to do... healing, preaching... he doesn't have time for this.''
V.14- Notice, this makes Jesus ''indignant.''- Righteously angry.
