Divorce. Just saying the word will illicit an emotional response from many in the room. It brings back painful memories, embarrassment, shame, guilt... for many it brings thoughts of fear. I realize this morning's topic is a painful one for many. Unfortunately many times in the church people can tend towards one of two extremes that we must avoid this morning. Ditch on the left- A liberal view- ''Don't speak of it, change the word for today's culture, don't be judgmental.'' A legalistic view- Treats divorce like the unpardonable sin and divorced people like the worst sinners in the church. We want to be biblical. I want to communicate to you today that God hates divorce. I also want you to know that God loves you. - We must speak on this issue because it's a critical one. We want to strive and content for healthy marriages. Far too many people are in unhealthy marriages and they are looking for a way out of the difficulty instead of a way through it. - As we make our way through Mark this morning what we find is that Jesus is not afraid to tackle controversial subjects. He's not afraid to contend for marriage. This morning we are going to see Jesus address the topic of divorce but he is going to do so by centering the talk on God and marriage.

10:1- And he left there and went to the region of Judea and beyond the Jordan, and crowds gathered to him again. And again, as was his custom, he taught them.

So we see here in verse 1 Jesus is teaching again. Remember Jesus teaches with authority... He is King... He is Lord... so what Jesus says goes...
