Upside Down Living (15 of 28)
Series: The Gospel of Mark: The True Story of the Son of God

Mark 9:30-50
Our world is upside down. We live in a world that because of the fall sees things through a distorted lens. I wear contacts. Every and they are a wonderful thing. It means I don't have to wear glasses like I did for awhile as a kid. Not fun. I had the goggles for baseball. I thought I was Chris Sabo, but I wasn't. As wonderful as contacts are if I get something on them... a smudge, etc. Then my vision could get messed up. A contact lens is only good if its clean, no tears, and in the right eye... if the lens is bad your vision is bad. Well the world is looking through a really dirty messed up lens. That sounds radical to many. ''DENY MY SELF? WHAT I LOVE MY SELF!- That's the natural outlook. And its wrong. You weren't created to be at the center of your universe and to be enthroned in your heart. You were created to have God at the center of you universe and on the throne of your heart. The fall warped us...
Well, we learned in chapter 8 that Christianity flips everything. Now self is not at the center... Jesus is. We are to deny, take up... even being willing to suffer in our pursuit... and follow him. We are to lose our life to save it. It's upside down living. What does it look like to live a life of denying self...? It affects how we should view our very pursuit of meaning, identity, and greatness... how we view others, sin, and God.
