Mark 9:1-29

We are back in the gospel of Mark and last week we saw Jesus invitation to discipleship. A call to deny ourself and take up our cross and follow Him. A call to lose ourselves in him to come after him at costs, to give our lives away.- Jesus assured us last week that if we follow him suffering is part of it. The threat and reality of persecution always hangs over the believer. The order of things is suffering then glory... it was so for Jesus and it is so for us. The reward follows the suffering.
This morning we get two pictures. We get a picture of Jesus in all his glory and a picture of Jesus in all his mercy. We get a picture of the glory of Jesus and the fallen nature of man. We see the mountain top experience and the valley of ministry.

Here is what I believe this morning... Victorious Christian living begins with seeing and savoring the victorious Christ.
Heb. 12:1-2- Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.?
Every believer here has experienced both the mountain and the valley. - In a sense that is what 3 of the disciples are about to have... But don't miss this in both pictures this morning Jesus is supreme, Jesus is good, Jesus is the hero... and Jesus is present. And in both pictures this morning the disciples are flawed and taught to lean into and depend on Jesus.
No matter where you are in your spiritual journey this morning... Jesus is the hero... We need to look to Jesus in all his glory so that we can serve others in his name.
