Live Right (1 of 3)
Series: The Right Turn
James Merritt
Galatians 2:20
Introduction
1. It was June 28,1914, Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and his wife, Sophie, were visiting Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia. There was unrest, because Austria had annexed Bosnia, which had been a part of the Serbian Empire for many years. They were traveling in an open car and a Bosnian-born, Serb terrorist threw a grenade at them. He missed, but he wounded members of their entourage.
2. They decided to go to the hospital to check on the injured, but the driver took a wrong turn. He ran into heavy traffic and stopped in front of the café. Another terrorist stepped out on the curb, fired two shots, killing the arch-duke and his wife. A wrong turn cost more than just two lives.
3. That wrong turn led to the first World War, the death of 10 million soldiers, millions of civilians, destroyed most of the dynasties and empires of Europe, gave rise to Communism, set the stage for a man named Adolph Hitler and the rise of Nazism and ultimately led to World War II and 50 million more deaths.
4. A wrong turn can cost you time, money, a job, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and even your life. We are beginning a series that I am calling ''The Right Turn.'' I believe there are three areas where every person should make sure they are making the right turn. We need to make sure we make the right turn in life, because you only have one life to live and you don't want to waste it.
5. We had better make sure we make the right turn in death, because we are all going to die. We are not going to live on this earth forever.
We should make sure we make the right turn for eternity, because I believe we are going to all spend somewhere forever.
6. Today, I want to talk about how to live right. It is true that you have the right to live any way you choose, but I believe there is only one true way to live right. It is more than just doing the righ ...
