Forever Right (3 of 3)
Series: The Right Turn
James Merritt
2 Corinthians 5:1-8
Introduction
1. Have you ever heard of Henryk Siwiak? Probably not. He is a Polish immigrant who died in New York City, on September 11, 2001. However, unlike the 2,871 people who died in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, he was shot to death in Brooklyn and his killing was the only homicide in New York City on that day. Because of the terrorist attack, his regular place of employment was shut down, but needing to work, he went to an employment agency in Brooklyn where he was offered $10 an hour to clean a supermarket.
2. At 11:45pm he was off to his last-minute cleaning job and despite using a map he had borrowed from his landlady he got lost after taking a wrong turn from the subway. Evidently, he ran into the wrong group of people and was shot and killed. To this day, his murder remains unsolved and is considered a cold-case, but we do know that he died, because he made a wrong turn.
3. Right Turn is the series we have been in and we have been seeing how deadly it can be to make the wrong turn and how important it is to make the right turn in how you live and how you die. Today, we want to talk about how important it is that you make the right turn after you die. It is plain that if you live right (that is by faith in Jesus Christ) you will die right safely in His care and because of that we learn today that you will be forever right.
4. I realize I am begging the question to begin with. I am talking about the question that is as old as civilization itself. Bible scholars believe the oldest book in the Bible is the Book of Job. We know that many, many years ago, people were already asking this question,
''If someone dies, will they live again?'' (Job 14:14, NIV)
Here is one of the top philosophical questions of all time. We know that we live and we know we are going to die, but what we want to know is, ''Is there life after death?''
