Using Our Gifts Generously (3)
Series: Live Generously
Josh Malone
1 Peter 4:10-11
We started this series called Live Generously by looking at John 3:16 and talking about the generosity of God. - The God of the Bible is radically, incredibly, undeniably generous. The Father gave the Son! Also, Jesus Christ, the Second Person of the Trinity is radically, incredibly, undeniably generous. He willingly laid down His life for sinners like you and me. Amazing. - However, the Bible also teaches us the Holy Spirit is generous.
Speaking of spiritual gifts in 1 Cor. 12:11 the Paul says, ''All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.''
Our God is a generous God, and we as His image bearers are to be generous. - Our God has given us spiritual gifts at the new birth. He has given us other abilities and talents we have. -A key area we need to live generously in is our spiritual gifts, and our talents/abilities.?
Today, we are going to be in 1 Peter. - Peter wrote this book so that we'd be reminded this world is not our home. We are passing through. - In chapter 4 of the book he begins to talk about the last days. We await the return of Christ. How do we live in light of that?
1 Peter 4:10-11- 10 As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: 11 whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies-in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Peter says in light of the fact that we are in the last days... use your gift to serve one another. Do this for God's glory. - Many times when we think about the end times the temptation is become fascinated with mysterious parts we don't fully understand. - Peter would have us engage in service, focusing on God and others in light of the last days.
