Our Scripture Reading Today Comes From Genesis 3: 3-11

If you were here last week, we started a sermon series on the book of Genesis, and if you are kind of new to Christianity or new to Bible study, Genesis is obviously the first book of the Bible, and it's incredibly foundational for understanding the rest of the Bible and for understanding all of life.
?You ever get something at Ikea or something like that and start to build it, start to put it together without looking at the directions? There is always a part that is kind of strange that you don't know what to do with, and then you get to the end of the project and realize, oh, that was the most important part. That's kind of how Genesis and the rest of the Old Testament are. There are parts that are a little strange, a little hard to understand, but if you don't know and understand the Old Testament, you will never understand the New Testament. You will never get it right. You will never be able to pick up on what so much of the New Testament authors are saying. You will be like the guy with the bookshelves from Ikea that are missing an important piece and end up falling apart. So, it is good that you are here today, and it is good that we are studying this foundational text.
Also, if you were here last week, we started studying the Bible's account of creation, and we said that God - who is sovereign over all things and has authority - had created a world that was orderly and that was beautiful, and to represent him in that world, he placed the man and the woman whom he blessed in his creation to rule over his creation, and he finished his work of creation. That is the way life was then. We don't know how long, but the man and the woman had total communion with God, with one another, and with the creation that they were ruling over. So, what we are supposed to gather from this passage is that all was right wit ...
