Series: Foundations and Pillars
Jeff Ecklund
Luke 6:47-49
Proverbs 9:1 (NASB95) 1Wisdom has built her house, She has hewn out her seven pillars;
I'm excited to open up a new series this morning that will unpack the necessity of building upon strong foundations and establishing or re-establishing pillars in our lives.
I was able to observe a new house being built across the road from ours over the last few months.
First of all, there was an old trailer house and it was time for it to go. It had been damaged, abused, neglected and honestly wasn't suitable for habitation.
The hope of the whole neighborhood was that someone would buy that place and burn that trailer house down! (Someone had even called the local fire department to see if they wanted some practice!)
So a builder with some vision came and purchased the property, had the old trailer home hauled away and began to build something new. He started with digging down and pouring a new foundation.
This builder didn't build upon an old foundation. He tore the old foundation up!
It was fascinating as you could see the surrounding property/lot in a different way because of what was being built.
It was also being built with a purpose in mind. To provide shelter, a home for a family. It wasn't a structure that was being constructed to house an auto parts store, or a barn for hay. It was a home for a family. I talked to the builder. I didn't need to ask him what he was building because the foundation had already determined it!
And it was being built with a future in mind.
God is a builder and we are created in His image. We are going to build something!
1 Corinthians 3:10-13 (NASB95)
10According to the grace of God which was given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building on it. But each man must be careful how he builds on it.
11For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ ...
