The Bridge of Faith (3 of 7)
Series: Foundations and Pillars
Jeff Ecklund
Hebrews 11:6
We are continuing this morning in our series of Foundations/Pillars.
Jesus is the foundation, and there are some pillars or supports, if you will, of the restoration of our lives as believers.
Some of these are elementary things if you've been walking with the Lord for a while. But consider them are a reminder. But for others new to the faith, these are absolute building blocks to your faith.
We have covered the importance of God's Word, and that we were created to walk with God, and hear God. You and I operate best when we are communicating with God!
I want to talk about another important aspect of our relationship with God this morning.
Faith
Hebrews 11:1-2 (NASB95)
1Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
2For by it the men of old gained approval.
I want us ALL to think of faith this morning as something that can be built, can be strengthened and increased. Faith is necessary, and imperative in the life of a believer.
Jesus rebuked some people saying, ''oh you of little faith'', which speaks to me of the possibility of having more faith.
The apostles also asked him to ''increase their faith'', so they were aware of a deficiency in that area.
Faith is this incredible combination of belief, trust and conviction, and when the Bible talks about this faith, it's faith in God.
We can have faith in other things, other objects. Take objects for example.
My car has started EVERY time I turned the key. Because of that, I have a confidence, a trust if you will that tomorrow it will start as well. I don't wake up at 2 a.m. and worry that it won't start in the morning.
My wife sets the coffee pot to brew at 5:30 every morning. When I am awakened by the sound of the coffee, it reinforces or builds my confidence. I have a conviction now, a surety that there will be coffee when I get up!
