The next three weeks we are going to be talking about everyone's favorite subject in church. Money! -- Specifically-- Generosity! Did I see a few fist pumps? Yeah!
If you are a guest today and this is the first time or few here, or you are here and its the first time you've been in awhile, please understand, we don't do this every week. This is not a series about guilt, condemnation, etc. This is not a fundraising scheme. In fact, when take up the offering during our services that's for our NP members. If you are a guest we're not looking for you to give.
I know for some folks get real uncomfortable with this subject in church. Sometimes that's because of... false teaching, abuse, hurt by the church, manipulation witnessed. Sometimes people don't ''feel'' generous so they feel guilty and don't like it. OR Sometimes they simply may not be generous and hate the subject. -- I've found many times the more generous people like when its talked about, because giving for them is not a source of dread or guilt, but of great joy and worship.
If its so controversial why even touch it?
The Bible does a lot. - The Bible talks about money and generosity a lot. In both the OT and the NT the Bible deals with this subject. We are a Bible teaching church. Faithful, Bible teaching churches will teach on this subject.
Jesus did a lot. - Jesus is our Lord and our example. He's the boss, this is His church. He's also the example we follow. We aim to be like Christ. Jesus talked about money more than any other subject including Heaven and Hell.
It's not really about money. - It's really about the heart. We are going to see this especially next week. Money is a window to the soul, to the heart. It reveal our heart and influences our heart. This is why Jesus hit on it so much.
God does not need your money. He's not a beggar. He's not poor. However, God cares deeply about your ...
