1 Timothy 6:18-19
Last week was all about avoiding the things that can prevent generosity, avoiding certain attitudes, hopes, and beliefs and making sure we understand that God is our Provider and He owns everything, and our hope should be in him not money.
This week the focus is on that we are not simply called to trust God and not money. What we believe, and where our hope is... should have a real world impact on our generosity. Believers, we are CALLED TO BE GENEROUS.
Today we will see this call to generosity has ramifications for Earth and Heaven, for now and later. God doesn't allow us to act like this life doesn't matter, only Heaven matters. And God doesn't allow us to act like this life is all that matters.--- God calls us to live for Heaven in a way that impacts earth. To live on earth, like we are citizens of Heaven. This has ramifications for every part of life... today we see it has ramifications for finances.
We are back in 1 Timothy this week. Remember this letter is written by Paul to Timothy, his younger apprentice. He was helping the church in Ephesus to establish leaders and direct them into laying a good foundation. At the end of the book Paul writes to him about how to address those with money in the church.
When he addresses the rich, he is addressing most/many of us here today. -- However as we will see next week, the call to generosity is for ALL.
1 Tim. 6:17-19- As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. [18] They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, [19] thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.
