Open your bible to John 15. Someone said, ''The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing.'' I also know as a leader the MAIN thing needs to be the PLAIN thing! It has to be hollered and highlighted repeatedly if it's going to be heard and heeded consistently.
Our mission as a church must be clear if it's going to be accomplished. We are a Gospel-Centered church making disciples of Jesus Christ. That's who we are and that's what we do. Our aim is not to get people to make a decision for Christ but to become a disciple of Christ. Many think Christianity is simply saying to God, ''You can have me after I die.'' No true. Being a follower of Jesus means saying, 'I don't want my life or my way. You can have all of me right now and forevermore.' Being a true disciple requires me to abandon ownership and surrender control of my own life and completely give it to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Paul puts it like this: Galatians 2:20: ''I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.''
If you don't live for Christ right now on earth, you shouldn't expect to live with Christ later in heaven. What we've been saying is that true gospel belief will always lead to true godly behavior. We are saved and forgiven by rightly believing in the Gospel. By believing I'm a hopeless, depraved, hell bound sinner who deserves the wrath of God for the penalty of my sin. But I joyfully receive God's rescue of grace by placing my faith in Jesus, the Son of God, who came out of heaven lived a perfect life to fulfill God's Law, died a sacrificial for my sin, and conquered death by rising from the dead. We believe our way into becoming a new person and a child of God.
