Psalm 51
Have you ever been busted? You did something wrong and you got caught? We've all been busted. We've all done wrong. The Bible says it this way, we are all sinners. We have done things that offend God. Now, sometimes we never get busted by other people. In fact, someone can carry on in a sinful pattern of behavior for years and never be caught. Then when they are busted its like ''WHOA... I'm shocked!''--- But two people aren't shocked. The person that was hiding their sin... and God. The truth is in the eyes of God we are always busted. He sees, hears, and knows everything. There is no deed, no sin, no rebellion against His Word that escapes His notice. The fact is we are all guilty before God. Here's the real question what do we do with our guilt? When we are busted before God what do we do? When God exposes our sin to us and opens our eyes to the truth of what we've done... how do we respond?
Prov. 28:13- Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.
The question before us this morning is not are we guilty. The question is what do we do with our guilt, with our sin?
Psalm 51 is one of the most well known Psalms. It was written by David and the heading of the psalm tells us the circumstance...
To the choirmaster. A psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet went to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.
Context of Psalm 51:
David, one of the most prominent figures in the Bible, the one through whom's lineage the Messiah was to come, that David... the one that killed Goliath, the second king of Israel... the man after God's own heart... committed a terrible sin. 2 Samuel tells the story... while David was king this is what happened...
2 Samuel 11:2-5- It happened, late one afternoon, when David arose from his couch and was walking on the roof of the king's house, that he saw from the roof a woman ...
