Have you ever hit a spiritual wall? Have you ever been deeply troubled in spirit? Have you ever felt distant from God? Life has ups and downs. We have highs and lows. - Many times people may think that as a Christian these things don't happen. You get God you get joy. And you do... but we still have sorrow and pain. And last week we talked about dealing with fear and many times fear happens because of trials and situations that tempt us to that in our life. This week its this idea of the downcast soul. Spiritually dry, dark, even depressing times. - So today we are going to deal with the spiritually downcast soul and how we can deal with it.
Today we are in Psalm 42 and 43. These Psalms, many scholars believe, likely were one Psalm at one time. Psalm 43 is the only Psalm in the 2nd book of the Psalms without an intro header which points to that, and as we read them you will see a repeated verse as well.

Now it is written to the choirmaster. So this Psalm is meant to be sung. It's a ''maskil''- We don't really know what that word means, but it stems from a verb meaning wisdom.
The Sons of Korah- These were priests who lead in worship, they would sing. In 2 Chron. 20:19- ''And the Levites, of the Kohathites and the Korahites, stood up to praise the LORD, the God of Israel, with a very loud voice.''
One commentary points out that this Psalm may have been written by one of these men while in exile with David during Absalom's rebellion. We don't know for certain when it was written, but we do know it was a dark time.
The feeling of his soul is that he is abandoned, forgot ...
