12 ''Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.

The Word of the Lord

Lauren's Prayer: Father, when we look at creation, we see the beauty of order. Your word teaches us that there is a season for everything under the sun. A time to plant, a time to tend, a time to harvest, and a time to pull up what has been planted. Order brings about fruit and flourishing.

Father, help us have eyes to see this more each day. To love order, to love submitting to that order because You designed it and called it good.

Grant us grace to quell the rebellion that springs up so readily in our hearts. Grant us mercy that leads to quick repentance. Grant us humility to come to You with faith like a child, knowing that Your kindness is everlasting and following Your design leads to abundant life. Amen.

I know you might be thinking, does he know that it's Easter? Did he forget that it is Easter, because I have never heard an Easter sermon from Exodus 20:12 - Honor your Father and Your Mother.

This is a good passage if he were teaching Youth Group but not a good passage for Easter Sunday. Well, I do know that it is Easter, and I actually think this passage might be one of the most important passages in the Bible for understanding the Easter Story. In fact, I would go so far to say that if you have never heard this passage preached at Easter or at least if you have never thought about this passage at Easter, then you probably have never really understood what was going on in the Easter story.

So, happy Easter, but let's get to work.
