Proverbs 7
We live in a time where sex has been both thought to little of and thought too much of.
In one way, people have cheapened, think too little of it, and treat sex like it is merely an y activity. On the other hand, people have idolized it, and can't imagine their life without sex on their terms.
In his book Meet Generation Z, James Emery White, describes the rising generation born from 1996-2010. White notes that ''70 percent of all 18- to thirty-four-year-olds are regular viewers'' of pornography. The avg. age to begin looking at pornography is 11.
He goes on to note that nearly 75% of those age 15-18 have sexted, and about 50% ''have sent naked or semi-naked photo and videos of themselves.'' ''84% have gotten sexually explicit messages by phone or email.''
In a culture where sexual immorality, pornography and the like are so common... it should not surprise us that we see lives and families ripped to pieces due to poor choices in this area.
This is a difficult subject because so many lives have been ruined by sexual sin, marriages rocked by adultery. -- This is why we have to deal with it... the stakes are too high. And ... THERE IS HOPE. Hope for the tempted, hope for the fallen, the wrecked... their is hope in Christ Jesus!
Understand Sex is a gift of God to be stewarded God's way. Not a god to be worshipped
In Gen. 1-2, God creates the first people Adam and Eve and he tells them to be fruitful and multiply... that's in the context of a marital relationship between one man and one woman. -- As you look at the rest of Scripture it's very clear God's design for sex is that it is to be between one man and woman united in marriage.
As D.A. Carson notes, ''Sex is about timing. The world says: any time, any place. God says: my time, my place.''
However, ever since the Fall sexual sin has wreaked havoc on the world. The OT is riddled with examples ...
