Mark 15:33-39
INTRODUCTION: I've had seasons in my life where my faith in God is strong. I feel like I can hear him. I'm in sync with him.
But I've also had seasons where it felt like no matter how hard I prayed, it felt like he wasn't there. Have you ever felt that?
Have you ever prayed to God, yet felt like he wasn't there?
Have you ever felt, despite your belief that God loves you, that he has abandoned you?
Several years ago, my oldest son went through a phase where he would wake up every single night at about 3am.... Night terrors... Seizures... He would then scream for 4 straight hours until his school bus arrived. This went on every night... For about 6 months.
So, my wife and I didn't get much sleep. Lack of sleep over a long period of time, can take a heavy physical toll.... And on relationships.
I remember MANY nights... Standing in my hallway... As I hear the shrieking sounds of my son screaming in the bedroom... Looking up at the ceiling... And saying, ''WHERE ARE YOU?'' ''ARE YOU EVEN THERE?!'' ''DO YOU EVEN CARE?! WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME!!!''
How many of you have asked God that same question? Well, the Scriptures tell us that you're not alone.
King David prayed this prayer.
Psalm 22:1-2 [1] My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning? [2] O my God, I cry by day, but you do not answer, and by night, but I find no rest.
But even Jesus prayed this prayer... From the cross. He felt this same pain.
Mark 15:33-39 - [33] And when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. [34] And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, ''Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?'' which means, ''My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?''
