As we begin this five-week series of messages under the heading, ''MAKING SENSE OF OUR SENSES,'' take God's word and turn with me to Psalm 34.
Have you ever wondered why God gave you your five senses:
-Taste (through your tongue),
-Sight (through your eyes),
-Hearing (through your ears), -Touch (through your skin),
-Smell (through your nose)?

So why did God give us these five senses?
*God gave us taste to help keep us satisfied.
Imagine how bored we'd become if we couldn't taste food and drinks? That cold refreshing Coke on a hot summer afternoon wouldn't be quite as refreshing if we had no taste. A part of enjoying a cold slice of watermelon during the summer is its taste! What is your favorite meal to eat? Would it still be your favorite meal if you couldn't taste it?
*God gave us sight to help keep us safe! It's through our sight we know when to cross a street without getting run over; where certain objects are preventing us from crashing into them, how to move through life without injury. *God gave us hearing to help make us sure!
Sure about what? Sure about what's coming behind us; what's coming in front of us, what's happening around us and above us giving us confidence and assurance in our surroundings.
*God gave us touch to help make us secure. That security started at birth. One study found ''that babies that were touched gained weight as much as 50 percent faster than untouched babies. They're more active, alert, and responsive, more aware of their surroundings, better able to tolerate noise, and they orient themselves faster and are emotionally more in control and better to calm and console themselves'' than babies that were not touched.
