If you have your Bibles with you now this evening, if you will be finding a place at Genesis 19, again, Genesis 19. Let me make a little bit of a pastoral, not apology, more or less a little bit of a disclaimer if you will. If you're like me, you're probably ready to get through the end of Genesis 19, tie a bow on it and say, ''Hey we've been through the story of Sodom and Gomorrah.'' I was thinking on my way home this afternoon, Lord, why can't we just move through this chapter quicker? Why can't we just be like other pastors do, just quickly, and simply and superficially, and say we've done Genesis 19.

I mean my goodness, W. A. Criswell will spend 11 years going page by page, I mean cover to cover, Genesis to Revelation and he would have never done it in 11 years if it took him three months to get through one chapter. That's kind of what I was saying to the Lord on the way home this afternoon. And here's kind of the answer that I got as I was driving home after church this morning; here's the answer, ''This chapter is too important.'' It really is a pivotal chapter in all of the pages of the Old Testament. This chapter really is right where we are living today, church. Can I get an Amen on that?

This chapter is what we are experiencing week in and week out, day in and day out. If you're like me and you leave the TV on at night and you wake up to the news in the morning, this is where we are in our nation, in our society, our culture, our country, in our world today. And this chapter has so much practical application. So when these preachers just give it a hit and lick and just kind of give you a 30,000 foot synopsis of it and move on, you're never going to get what you need to get. And so we're just going to take our time; we're going to move through it.
