Illus.- The Incredible Hulk- As a child I was a big fan of the old Incredible Hulk TV show starring Bill Bixby as Dr. David Banner who would magically transform into Lou Ferrigno, the Hulk, when he got ANGRY. I remember Dr. Banner would say when someone was angering him. ''Don't make me angry, you won't like me when I'm angry.'' --- I loved pretending to be the Hulk, and throwing pillows or smaller cousins around like fleas. I loved imagining having that kind of power. --- We all have a little Hulk in us. We all have the ability to get angry and to turn into someone that no one likes. This morning I want to talk about anger and how to deal with it.
If not dealt with in a healthy way anger can be very destructive... I read this week that people who have a habit of explosive anger who who have pent up rage can have heart problems because it. I also read that it is a leading cause of depression. --- Anger issues cause problems in marriages, families, it causes problems in the workplace, society, and yes even at church.
Anger is a powerful emotion. It can be used for good, it can be used for bad.
The Bible warns us about anger....
BE SLOW TO ANGER- Prov. 16:32- Whoever is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city. (Prov. 14:29, 15:8, James 1:19-20)
LODGES IN THE HEART OF FOOLS- Eccl. 7:9
DON'T BE CLOSE FRIENDS WITH THE ANGRY- Prov. 22:24-25- Make no friendship with a man given to anger, nor go with a wrathful man, [25] lest you learn his ways and entangle yourself in a snare.
In Eph. 4 Paul has been talking about what it means to live the new life in Christ, to take off the old man and put on the new, to live with a renewed mind and be the person God wants you to be by the transforming power of Jesus Christ. In verses 25-32 he gives specific examples of how to live that out... ...
