Romans 12:1-8
Please turn to Romans chapter 12.
We’re starting a really important section of Romans today.
The first 11 chapters of Romans are primarily doctrinal- We’ve been learning truths about the Gospel, about who god is, who we are- we’ve learned about justification, sanctification, election, all of these awesome truths
But starting in Romans 12, there’s an entirely different emphasis- we’ve heard all of this truth- and now the apostle paul answers the question, “So what?”
Because just knowing truth is useless. God wouldn’t have us sit around and just learn truth. We’re called to LIVE out truth. Truth is intended to DO something- otherwise it’s pointless.
The Gospel isn’t just good news. The Gospel is good news that transforms you.
so we’re going to start with our statement:
Statement: Those who have experienced God’s saving grace (that grace we’ve been learning about the last 11 chapters) live changed lives by grace.
We’re in church this morning. Virtually everyone here professes to believe the Gospel of God’s grace. But the real question is do you live by grace? Has that knowledge of God’s grace changed you to LIVE by grace? THat’s the real question.
And Paul’s assumption is- that those who believe the gospel- and changed by gospel.
12 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
3 For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. 4 For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all ha ...
