Series: In the Beginning- A Study in Genesis

Genesis 3:1-8
You need only to turn on the news today to see we live in a world with tremendous problems. Terrorist acts, abuse, murders, corruption... our headlines are full of this stuff. What's wrong with the world? Every worldview has to answer that question. The biblical worldview is simple. Sin. We live in a world filled with sin and sinners. You and I are the problem.
Genesis 3 is the story of how the world became what it is. It's the story of why things are no longer like they were in Gen. 2:25- And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.- There is this picture of total innocence. When you read the first 2 chapters of Genesis everything is perfect. But today, things are not perfect. And we have no clue of what life without shame is like.
Illus.- Can you imagine never having felt shame of any kind? Never having anything you felt the need to squirm over. Having never done something and feeling guilty for it because you've never done wrong? - It's hard to imagine! Our world is filled with guilt and shame because of what happens in Genesis 3.
Genesis 3 it has been said may be the most important chapter in the Bible. You have to understand this chapter to understand the rest of the Bible, to understand human nature, to understand why Jesus came... a flawed view of Genesis 3 will lead to a flawed view of life itself. --- This is the story of the fall of man, the story of how man became sinful. We learn from this chapter how how temptation works, and the very core of sin. As we see this hopefully we can see better how the enemy works, temptation works, and how to better avoid sin.. and also see how desperately in need we are of rescue, for Adam and Eve's story... is ours.
Today, we will see how Satan and temptation works, how we fall, and how it transforms everything.
