Genesis 8:20-9:28
We live in a world of broken promises. It seems like on a weekly basis you hear about a man or woman who has broken their marriage vows. Can anyone be trusted? Can anyone be counted on any more?--- The Bible teaches us over and over that God can be trusted. He keeps His promises.
However at times believers struggle with trusting God in specific areas. Faith is a gift from God and its a gift we need to steward and exercise. Faith is something that needs to be grown not neglected.
ILLUS- I'm not a good person to have water your plants. I've learned something, they shrivel up without water. Well your faith needs to be watered with the promises of God.
I want this passage today to water your faith, your trust in God.
We pick up our text in Genesis 8. God has just flooded the earth and destroyed every living being save some animals and 8 people, Noah and his family. They have been on the ark for just over a year. That's a long time on a ship, with lots of animals. Can you imagine what that must have been like?
Illus.- Long car rides as a kid
The arguing, the fighting, the sounds of the animals, the smells of the animals. The greatest natural disaster to ever come upon the planet has happened, you've survived it.
You've been shut up in an ark all this time... and now... the rain has stopped, the waters have receded, the ground has dried... and you walk out... what next?
Gen. 8:20-22- Then Noah built an altar to the LORD and took some of every clean animal and some of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar. [21] And when the LORD smelled the pleasing aroma, the LORD said in his heart, ''I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the intention of man's heart is evil from his youth.
