WHAT IS YOUR MORAL STANDARD?

JESUS CHRIST said, "'Are you thus without understanding also? Do
you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot
defile him, because it does not enter his heart but his stomach,
and is eliminated, thus purifying all foods?' And He said, 'What
comes out of a man, that defiles a man. For from within, out of
the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries,
fornication, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit,
licentiousness, and evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All
these things come from within and defile a man'" (Mark 7: 18 -
23).
The word translated "defile" is KOINOO. It is well translated in
the AKJ "polluted." That is a word we can relate to. Our
ecologically conscious youth know it well.
On a camping trip recently, I cooked and served breakfast to a
large group of elementary grade children. One of them cycled
back, pulled on my shirt, and as I bent over whispered, "You did
a 'no-no.'"
"I did a no-no! What?" "You used styrofoam plates."
I escaped by assuring her they were the biodegradable type.
Before doing most major forest, farming, or earth projects, an
ecological impact study has to be made and assurance given that
nothing will be polluted as a result.
As this is true in the field of ecology, it is even of more
import that the same be done in the spiritual and moral realm.
