JESUS CHRIST specializes in "new creations."
There are few words that contain as much promise, opportunity,
and hope as those found in II Corinthians 5:17: "If anyone is in
Christ, he is a new creation ..."
"In Christ" a new humanity has been created. Those who have
repented, responded, and become reliant upon Him are new
creatures.
As a college student I enjoyed the solitude of retreating by way
of a pirogue down a remote bayou into the deep swamp. There the
alligators were the only things likely to disturb me. It was
their home.
One lazy spring day as I reclined in that little boat and
studied I chanced to look down into the brackish water tinted to
look like a large lake of tea as a result of the tannic acid
resulting from decaying leaves in the water. Swimming around in
the natural decay were large water bugs a couple of inches long.
As the lazy day progressed, one crawled out of the water onto
the bow of my pirogue. He had big bug eyes that appeared to be
staring at me. I glanced at him occasionally. Soon I noticed he
had dried out. A bit later a fine crack appeared down his back.
As the sun continued its drying and drawing influence, the crack
widened. Perhaps as much time as an hour lapsed. Who keeps time
on a bayou?
Then a miracle happened. The creature in that crusty shell that
emerged from the water began the gradual process of emerging
through that ever ...
