Morning church!

Open your Bibles to Exodus 20. We're looking at verses 8-11.

We have the opportunity to look at what is undoubtedly the most misunderstood and ignored 4th commandment: Remember the sabbath.

What is the sabbath? Is that one of the commandments that was ''done away with?''

I mean- do not murder is obviously still in effect. But what about keeping the sabbath? And probably the majority of us don't even give it a second thought.

And I'll say that I've never really deeply though through what to about the 4th commandment and when I was assigned this passage a couple months ago I thoguht, I gotta figure out what I believe about it!

And it's been enlightening-

So before we read the statement and then the text- I'll let you know the first half of the sermon is basically theology- what is the NT requirement/interpretation of the sabbath? What does it mean for us- and then we'll go into our points.

Statement: I remember the Lord's day by delighting in Him over everything else.

8 ''Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
