Revelation 12
INTRO: My current sermon series is entitled GOD'S ENDGAME. Taking my cue from ''Avengers Endgame'' I intend to preach for THREE HOURS today (just kidding).
Last Sunday we started with ''The Endgame Has Begun.'' That is true for three reasons: 1) Satan is bound. 2) The first resurrection has occurred. 3) The Millennium is now. We also noted that the structure of the book is cyclical, and that the style of the language is apocalyptic - meaning lots of symbolism.
As I mentioned before, the book of Revelation is too long and detailed for me to identify every element of every symbol that we'll be looking at. There is more of Revelation that I'm NOT going to talk about than I am. So, if you want help with an in-depth study of Revelation, I recommend two excellent commentaries. They are: ''More Than Conquerors'' by William Hendriksen and ''The End Time'' by Russell Boatman.
God's endgame could be called ''The MOTHER of all endgames!'' Obviously, we're using the idiom, ''Mother of all...'' not in a literal sense but in the idiomatic sense of the ''biggest of all,'' or the 'greatest of all.'' And indeed God's ''Endgame'' is the MOTHER of all Endgames. There are five reasons that God's ''Endgame'' is the MOTHER of all Endgames. We find all five in Revelation chapter 12.
God's Endgame is the Mother of All Endgames because it has:
I. THE MOTHER OF ALL MOTHERS
Rev.12:1-2 ''Then I witnessed in heaven an event of great significance. I saw a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon beneath her feet, and a crown of twelve stars on her head. She was pregnant, and she cried out because of her labor pains and the agony of giving birth.''
Now some of you ladies are great ''mothers'' out there today but we have to give it up to the woman described here in Revelation. She HAS to be the ''mother of all mothers.'' I mean, she's clothed with the sun, has the moon for a footstool, ...
