Introduction
1. It is the start of a new year and we are all in the same boat. Everybody loves to celebrate the new year, but nobody wants to start one. We make new year resolutions, but only 8% of people who make them keep them. Every year I have the same experience. I am never higher emotionally, physically, and in some ways maybe even spiritually than I am during the holidays, but I don't mind telling you I crash and burn when they are over. Now experts are telling us it is not in our head. It is a real thing.
2. There is even a term for it. It is called ''social jetlag.'' you have slept late, taken time off, enjoyed the parties, overeaten, played with toys, enjoyed the new gadgets, but now it is time to leave that holiday Disney world that you have been living in and come back to the real one and you realize just how dead-dog tired you are.
3. The holidays are over. You have been going ninety-miles-an hour. You have nothing left in the tank. It is time to refuel which is exactly the title of the series we are beginning today. I want you to think about something.
4. When it comes to a new year there is one thing we have no control over. It may be our last one. There is someone listening right now that saw the new year in, but they won't see this new year out. We have no control over whether or not it is our last year, but we can control whether or not it is our best year.
5. One of my favorite places in the world is Athens, Greece. In Athens, there are statues everywhere. One man who lived in Athens, hundreds of years ago, wrote that at one point, there were more statues than people in Athens. There was a statue called ''opportunity'' which was a statue of a person who had long-flowing hair in front of its face, but was completely bald in the back.
