The Meaning of the Lord’s Supper
Scott Maze
1 Corinthians 11:17-34
There are two ordinances that Jesus commanded the Jesus to continually perform: baptism and Lord's Supper. Today, little thought is given to the meaning of these two ordinances. We live in a day when spontaneity and change are always best. The motto of the day seems to be, ''let's change things up.''
While there is empty traditions, the meal before should not be classified as meaningless rituals. In fact, Astronaut Buzz Aldrin took communion on July 29, 1969 when Apollo 11 landed on the moon. Right before he proceeded out of the door to walk on the lunar surface, he participate in the Lord's Supper.
Scripture itself has called us to reenact this meal. We must seek to recover the value of the two ordinances of the church as they are visible reminders of the Gospel. So let's linger and pause rather than rush this morning. Let's allow God to work His medicine upon us as we confess our sins and seek to love one another.
Today's Scripture

And I believe it in part, 19 for there must be factions among you in order that those who are genuine among you may be recognized. 20 When you come together, it is not the Lord's supper that you eat. 21 For in eating, each one goes ahead with his own meal. One goes hungry, another gets drunk. 22 What! Do you not have houses to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I commend you in this? No, I will not.
23 For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, ''This is my body which is for you. Do this in rem ...
