Joseph has been betrayed by his brothers and sold into slavery. He has been falsely accused while a slave and imprisoned unjustly, but now he is free. God gave him ability to interpret dreams and through that Joseph has risen to power as the King of Egypt's right hand man. He has accurately interpreted 7 years of abundance and 7 more of famine. He has devised and executed a plan to make sure there is plenty of grain for people to survive the famine.

At this point Joseph has been away from his family for about 20 years. The famine has begun. And God's working in his life is about to be on full display. After over 20 years of separation, Joseph and his brothers about to reconnect. They are about to reconcile.

ILLUS. - We love a good reconciliation story. - We don't pull against but for the couple in the movie to get back together. We want friends to reconcile - Think of how many of our great movies, shows, books... deal with reconciliation. Sibling rivalries, family feuds, break ups, friendships gone awry... then brought back together. - We love it. - (Gospel echoes)

Gen. 42-45 is an incredible story of God working to bring healing to a family so that He could use them in a mighty way. -When we see what God is doing in moving us toward reconciliation we can better understand what we are called to.

I say the word reconcile this morning and some of you have somebody on your mind. There is someone you have wronged, or they you... and a friendship or a family relationship has been severed. - Now TG or Christmas... or work, etc. is awkward. - This is real stuff. - Let's see how we can move forward to day with Christ the reconciler.
