ROMANS 1: 20 - 32

JESUS CHRIST reaches out to each of us individually with arms
long enough to embrace all of us. Thus, His embrace is intended
for individuals and societies. For that reason we sing as though
it were a prayer, "God bless America."
In all of life there is a cause and effect principle. In the
moral and spiritual realm it applies. Certain conduct causes
certain consequences. That relates to good and bad conduct.
During the Constitutional Convention as our founding fathers
deliberated one asked, "When does a nation answer to God?"
James Madison, in his detailed notes, recorded that George Mason
answered: "Nations can't be punished in the hereafter as people,
so Providence punishes national sins by natural calamities."
Our text speaks of people whose sins become so gross that God
gives them up.
I.THE CAUSE OF GOD GIVING THEM UP
A.IMPUDENCE "although they knew God,
they did not glorify Him as God..." (Vs. 21a).
God reveals Himself so obviously in nature that there is enough
knowledge of Him that even the most primitive person has reason
to praise and thank Him. Knowledge isn't the issue. Failure
comes from persons not making the transition from knowledge to
response. In reality people choose not to respond
adequately and give as their reason inadequate knowledge.
The problem is very much like a parent with a small child when
