JESUS CHRIST said to His disconsolate disciples, "I go to
prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for
you, I will come again..." (John 14: 1).
Hopefully and wistfully, faithful followers of Christ have
longed for His return. In a letter punctuated with references to
His return Paul gave an appeal and an assurance when he wrote:
"...wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead,
even Jesus who delivered us from the wrath to come"
(I Thess. 1:10).
In effect he was saying, "If you want proof that Christ is
coming again you will find it in His empty tomb."
The resurrection is an affirmation of His return.
Christ, being a realist, knew we needed assurance. Therefore, to
build our confidence in long-term prophecy, He gave some
short-term prophecies. By fulfilling the short-term prophecies
He has given us reason to be confident of the long- term one
regarding His return.
In recounting what he knew of Christ's farewell discourse, Luke
recorded that Christ said, "When you see Jerusalem surrounded by
armies, then know that the desolation is near. Then let those in
Judea flee to the mountains, let those who are in the midst of
her depart, and let not those who are in the country enter her"
(Luke 21: 20, 21).
That sounds like an impossible prophecy. He said when you see
the city surrounded, flee. How, pray tell, can people flee from ...
