The Most Meaningful Memorial

Mark 14:12-26
Have you ever wished you could know the future? I used to daydream about one scene in ''Back to the Future Part 2.'' Remember how Biff Tannen became a millionaire? He found a Sports Almanac that Marty McFly discarded and he wagered money and won big-time because he knew the future!

Had I known about Black Monday in 1987, I would have withdrawn our investments for the weekend. We took a huge hit. We had $500 before Black Friday (yeah, I know $500 doesn't sound like much, but we were young and $500 seemed like $1 million to us) - and less than $250 after Black Friday.
If I had known that 2016 was the year of the Cubs, I could have flown to Las Vegas with our church offering and made enough money to fund our entire relocation project! We think knowing the future will insure our happiness, don't we?
That's why palm readers, astrologers and prognosticators make good money writing books. We know that somebody has to be smarter than us. I mean, the guy who stares back at us in the mirror is a dufus, right? So the guy we hear on the radio, or the gal we watch on TV sounds so convincing, they must be right!
Truth is, though, if we knew the future we'd be miserable. The Bible warns us (Leviticus 19:31) not to, ''... consult with mediums and astrologers.'' And even if we did know the future, that'd take a lot of joy and excitement out of life.
I've never hit a hole-in-one, but I've watched two guys from church hit an approach shot into the hole from the middle of the fairway. Two years ago Dan Booth hit a 9-iron from 129-yards-out on hole No. 9, and Steve and Ruthanna Williamson saw the whole thing. Last summer Dick Inskeep hit a 7-iron from 143 yar ...
