1. Good morning! Happy Father’s Day! We are so thankful you are here this morning. Turn with me to the book of Joshua 24:14.

2. I was thinking about Father’s Day and I thought about leadership, choices, passion, and inspiration. I was then reminded of this passage in Joshua and realized that this is the perfect text to preach on today. Yes, it absolutely applies to the father’s here this morning. But it also applies to all of us here as we realize, together, what it means to follow the Lord.

3. Here’s the context of the passage we will be looking at today. Joshua had just given a final address to all of Israel, encouraging them to stay true to the Lord and serve Him only, or there will be sever consequences. He then gathers all the tribes of Israel and all the leaders to meet at Shechem. He then proceeds to remind them of all that God has done for them beginning with Terah, Abraham’s father.

4. This section is heavy with what God did for the Israelites. Don’t take this lightly. Understand what God is doing here. Here are some quick highlights:

I took your Father Abraham…and led him
I gave him Isaac
I gave Jacob and Esau
I gave Esau the hill country
I sent Moses and Aaron
I plagued Egypt
I brought you out
I brought your fathers out of Egypt
I brought you to the land of the Amorites
I gave them into your hand
I destroyed them before you
I delivered you
I gave [the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites] into your hand
I gave you a land on which you had not labored
[I gave you] cities that you had not built
[I gave you] cities that you dwell in
[I gave you] the fruit of vineyards and olive orchards [that you eat but did not plant].

5. Joshua is reminding the Israelites who God is and who they are. How God is the one initiating, guiding, leading, and moving for them, for their sake. It is now ...
