Luke 2:41-52
I grew up in the 60s and 70s and the image of motherhood has morphed over the years. I typed ''Famous Mothers'' into my search field and most of the famous Moms I know were former TV characters.
So, I thought it'd be fun to rehearse some of the more famous TV mothers. I'll name the mother, and you name the show, okay?
1. Caroline Ingalls: ''Little House on the Prairie.''
2. Olivia Walton: ''The Walton's.''
3. June Cleaver: ''Leave It to Beaver.''
4. Lucy Ricardo: ''I Love Lucy.''
5. Carol Brady: ''The Brady Bunch.''
6. Marion Cunningham: ''Happy Days.''
7. Claire Huxtable: ''The Cosby Show.''
8. Marie Barone: ''Everybody Loves Raymond.''
9. Laura Petrie: ''The Dick VanDyke Show.''
10. Edith Bunker: ''All in the Family.''
The three worst TV mothers are Marie Barone (Everybody Loves Raymond), Roseanne Barr (Roseanne), and Ellis Grey (Grey's Anatomy). Very few bad mothers are portrayed on TV.
Proverbs 31 includes a lengthy summary of a virtuous woman, and here are the highlights:
31:15 She gets up while it is still dark.
17 She sets about her work vigorously.
18 Her lamp does not go out at night.
27 She does not eat the bread of idleness.
28 Her children arise and call her blessed.
31 Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
When this virtuous woman was praised, Roseanne Barr was not the inspiration! And the differences between Caroline Ingalls and Marie Barone are astronomical!
Just in case you forgot, feel free to text a lunch reservation at Cracker Barrel! Mother's Day is important to Moms! Your Mom may not be high-maintenance, but she expects a card, a phone call and lunch!
Your mother walked through the valley of the shadow of death to bring you into this world! She sacrificed her time and energy, she slaves away for 364 days, just so you ca ...
