Romans 1:1-17
Today we begin a new series in the Romans 1-3 called Revealed.
Romans has been the most influential NT book in a lot of people's lives. Martin Luther was converted while reading a passage in Romans. The great reformers were captivated by it.
I believe if we will get captivated by its gospel centric message it can change our lives, our church, and fuel us to work to see gospel transformation among our neighbors.
We've titled this first series Revealed because that is what happens in the book and especially chapters 1-3. God's righteousness is revealed, our sin is revealed, our only hope ... the gospel is revealed. In these 3 chapters the most important information in the world is shared.
In Romans 1:1-17 Paul reveals some incredible truths about the gospel.
ILLUS. - One thing I think about when I hear the word REVEAL is Apple/Steve Jobs.
Romans has some big reveals. Not in the sense that they are nowhere else. But in it Paul clearly writes about some things in a way that make you go WOW.
One thing Romans does well... it reveals the gospel and its implications very clearly. The thing Paul wants you to go WOW at in this book... is the GOSPEL and its implications.
As we look at Rom.1:1-17 today it's my hope this passage gives us renewed clarity of the gospel and its importance, and a new passion to share it with others.
What you need to know as we begin: Paul wrote this letter to the church at Rome. Rome was obviously the most significant Gentile city in all the world at this time. Paul had yet to go there in his ministry. At this time the church is made up of both Jewish believers and Gentile believers. The majority were likely Gentile, while writing both groups, he is aiming heavily at the Gentiles.
As we go I'm going to show you three things we learn about the gospel ... and 1 big take away.?
