Today we are going to see the Apostle Paul address the religious, the self-proclaimed moral crowd, in particular the Jewish people in Rome. The last two weeks what he said had implications for all but was especially aimed at the Greeks, the Gentiles.– Paul wants Jews and Gentiles, religious and irreligious, both moral and immoral people, to know we are all SINNERS in need of a SAVIOR.

In the first century there was really no greater divide than that between Jew and Gentile. – The NT tells us the gospel tears down that division and unites both in one body called the church. Both the Jewish people, and the Gentile nations needed a SAVIOR.

In our own day we see our own great division. Religious people many times have a different world view than irreligious people. We may have differing views on what is moral & immoral, and even what is most important in life. – But we all ... religious or unreligious, moral or immoral, need a SAVIOR for we are all SINNERS.

Today Paul confronts and warns the religious Jews. He wants them to see that they are as in much a need of salvation as the Gentiles. – Paul’s warning to them is a warning we all need to heed for church, religion, and moralism ... cannot save us.

Romans 2:1-29- Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. 2 We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things. 3 Do you suppose, O man—you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself—that you will escape the judgment of God? 4 Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? 5 But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrat ...
