Romans 5:12-21
Today we wrap up our Justified series in Romans 4 and 5. We have been seeing how we can be justified, or declared righteous by God, made right with God... through faith in Jesus Christ. - We are sinners in need of righteousness before a righteous God, and that is found in Jesus Christ the Righteous One when His righteousness is given to us through faith in Him. - Today we wrap up this series with a look at Rom. 5:12-21.
We are told what OUR STORY is and what it CAN BE. We are given here... two realities, two Kingdoms... one is by default, the other by faith. - We are going to see here humanities story is dark and has been since the first man. But there is hope...
In Romans 5:12-21 we get an in depth look at where our story of brokenness begin, we get a clear hero worthy of our worship, and we get a life changing hope. Let's walk through this one paragraph at a time. I'm going to explain as we go..
Rom. 5:12-21- Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned- 13 for sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not counted where there is no law. 14 Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sinning was not like the transgression of Adam, who was a type of the one who was to come.
Therefore ... this is in the context of the certain hope believers have in Christ and the greater context of Rom. 1-4. How can believers be so sure that we are going to be saved? How can we the death of one man offer life all who believe? Where did sin begin anyway?
Sin entered through ONE MAN -Adam. Notice, the chain of events...
Adam - Sin - Death - Death - Sin and Death spread to all.
This is the pattern. Where there is sin, there is always death. Sin kills.
