Happy Mother's Day! Mothers play a critical role in the spiritual formation of their children, as do fathers. -- You are the key faith influencers in the lives of your children. I wouldn't trade being a daddy for anything, nor would my wife trade being a mommy. - There is one thing we understand-- it is us that has to take responsibility for the spiritual investment in our children's lives.
As a church, we want to come alongside and RESOURCE parents not REPLACE.
This can mean many things but it means we have to equip parents.
You can have the best children's ministry hour in town... but if the parents are not growing spiritually you are throwing seeds in the wind to some degree.
This morning I want to encourage and challenge our parents, future parents, and grandparents to live their faith and embrace their role in your families. -- (Detour in and out of Acts)
In Acts 16 Luke introduces to Timothy. Paul wrote two letters to him. He ended up being an apprentice of the Apostle. From his life we learn some things about the spiritual impact that can be made in the family, here from a mom and grandmother.
Acts 16:1-5- Paul came also to Derbe and to Lystra. A disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a Jewish woman who was a believer, but his father was a Greek. He was well spoken of by the brothers at Lystra and Iconium. Paul wanted Timothy to accompany him, and he took him and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in those places, for they all knew that his father was a Greek.
This is Paul's second trip to this region. He had been through in Chapters 13-14. Timothy is the son of a marriage between a devout believing Jewish woman and a Greek who seems to have been an unbeliever. It's possible that his dad was dead at this time.
