Today we begin a new series called Rest Assured: Being Certain of Your Salvation. - This is a topic that is near to my heart because I know what it's like to DOUBT your salvation. I know what it's like to doubt because in fact you are not saved and I know what it's like to be a believer battling doubt. - In the weeks to come it is my hope that every believer in Christ at NP will receive a renewed assurance and confidence in their salvation that will lead to a greater passion for the mission of God. I pray your assurance of where you stand before God will free you up to live for God's glory and the good of the world around us.
At the same time it is my hope... that for any of us who have an appearance of Christianity, a profession of belief but are not genuinely saved... that God will bless you by revealing that and that you will believe on Christ.
I grew up in an REVIVALISTIC church culture. - I remember going to camps and being at revivals where lots of pressure was put on people to make decisions right now, to pray a prayer, to walk an aisle, to make a public decision. I prayed prayers, I walked aisles. - I wanted to KNOW. - In the culture I grew up in it was common for people to assume that if they had prayed and asked Jesus into their heart they were saved. No questions asked. Nothing else matters. ''Have you asked Jesus into your heart?'' - Then there it's done.
Salvation, I've found, however is not about a PRAYER but a PERSON. Salvation is not about your words. Salvation is about Jesus' person and work.
No matter the religious culture or lack thereof you too may have had times of doubt.
Christianity and various distortions of it are very present in our culture and that can breed confusion when there is a lack of biblical clarity. We need to be clear about matters of eternity.
