Today we are kicking off a new series on the family called ''No Place Like Home.'' The title of the series is meant to point to the importance of the family. It's unique, the family is a powerful institution that shapes us and molds us. There is nothing like it.
There is a reason TV shows centered around the family are so popular.
Two examples: This is Us - Is a popular show that features three siblings. Much of the show is about how their childhood, their family and the events in that family have shaped them into who they are, and how it continues to shape them. - Americans love to watch this show, and cry. It's like the saddest show on TV. - But people like it and here is why... we know it is true... family shapes us. It's important and it effect us continually. It's all about how family shapes our personal stories, it's true.
Roseanne. - I know you didn't expect to hear that. - It's baaaack! 29 million people watched the new kick off after a two decade hiatus. Why? It's the story of a blue collar family, struggling to simply make it and keep their head afloat. - People connect.
Both shows are filled with brokenness. Both shows connect with people.
This isn't an endorsement. - It's a point. Some of the most popular shows in TV history have centered around families. For better or worse.
Instinctively we know family is important. We desire it. We want our family to flourish. Yet we don't always. We struggle. The Good News is that God has a plan for the family.
God wants your family to flourish. God wants you to have a healthy relationship with your spouse, parents, your kids, your grandkids, your siblings. - You want these things... so does God! - The question is... will we do it GOD'S WAY? ?
Genesis 5:21-6:4 is the quintessential passage in the Bible on the family. It lays out clearly God's design. I want us to swim in it for the next ...
