ILLUS.- Children have their own way of sharing with you that they love you. For my little girl Eden when she really wants us to know she loves us she will say... ''I love you sooooooo much. You are always in my heart.'' - Maybe she's going to write movie scripts for the Hallmark channel one day or something.
When we really want someone to know we love them, we tend to want to do more than just say. ''I love you.'' Even with kids we see that.
As adults we know something... love is about more than saying it or even how you say it. Love is a verb. It's more than a feeling. It involves action. It leads to doing.
All of us want to be LOVED. That makes you a PERSON. That doesn't make you high maintenance, it makes you normal. But we know being loved is about more than having someone say it to us. You can say it and not mean it, you can say it and now show it. - We want to experience BEING LOVED not hearing the word, though that is nice too.
It should be no surprise to us that in marriage love is important. You cannot have a healthy marriage without love, and we don't need a counselor to tell us that. It is the HUSBAND who is called by God to lead out in love in the marriage.
We saw last week that the husband has the position of headship in the home. This means he is the leader, but he is to be a servant-leader, not some sort of demagogue. - This morning we are going to see he is to STEWARD his headship, his leadership role by LOVING HIS WIFE WELL. - This does not mean that he is to say I love you a lot. Nothing wrong with that. It means he should tangibly, actually, love is a verb, love her.
Many of our issues in marriage can be healed if a husband heeds and practices our text today. When a husband loves like we will see today... it makes it way more easy and natural for a wife to support and follow his servant leadership. This kind of love changes a home, it c ...
