As we know doors are how you get in and how you get out. They can be gateways to good our bad places. A door can lead to a prison or to freedom, it can lead to delight or death. It all depends on what's on the other side of the door!

Today, Jesus says he in fact is the door. What does that mean? The door to what? Why do we need a door?

Context: In John 9 Jesus healed a blind man to testify to the fact He is the light of the world. The corrupt religions leaders end up actually casting the man with new found site out of the synagogue. They didn't like his testimony that Jesus must be sent from God. So they literally cast him out. Then Jesus hears about this, goes to the blindman and basically brings him in... into His fold. He asks if he believes, tells him he is the one to believe in and then the man believes and begins to worship Jesus. It's on the heels of that we get this teaching from Jesus.

God's people had been mistreated by false prophets, false messiahs, and now there were scribes and religious leaders whose hearts were far from God. These people were leading God's people... but their leadership was repressive, legalistic, self-serving... it was abusive spiritual leadership in the worst way. Jesus actually said of them...

Matt. 23:13- ''But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut the kingdom of heaven in people's faces. For you neither enter yourselves nor allow those who would enter to go in.

Jesus tells them... you are an impediment to the Kingdom. Rather than show people the way in... you help keep them out. You are not entering nor allowing others to.

Then here in John... Jesus says... ''I am the door.'' - Whereas false teachers, false messiahs, and corrupt religious leaders were an impediment, a deterrent, a distraction... Jesus is THE DOOR.
