Galatians 1:11-2:10
We are in a new series called Free. We are journeying through the book of Galatians and the major theme of Galatians is the freedom we have in Christ Jesus through faith in Him. It's a book that is filled with the good news of God's grace toward sinners through Jesus. - Last week we talked about recognizing the difference between the true gospel that frees and the false gospels that condemn and enslave. - This week I want us to talk about what we experience... when we experience the gospel of grace.
ILLUS. Hearing about vs. Experiencing - Experiencing makes all the difference.
I had seen Augusta National on TV but experiencing it was different... and my allergies knew the difference, how do the get so much pollen in one place?
Paul makes clear in Galatians the gospel of grace is not simply something he heard or even teaches... it's something he had EXPERIENCED the power of. - His life had been radially impacted by God's gospel of grace in Christ Jesus.
Experience makes all the difference... we can't just know the gospel we must have an experiential encounter with its truth and power through faith.
Only by the grace of God and the power of His gospel can we experience freedom... from sin, shame, condemnation, dead religion, etc.
Starting in Gal. 1:11 Paul goes on a sort of autobiographical run and it's all about the gospel of grace and its impact on his life because it's Gods' gospel and not mans' gospel. Paul know this because he had experienced it... and he had experienced an encounter with the risen Jesus.
Gal. 1:11-12- 11 For I would have you know, brothers, that the gospel that was preached by me is not man's gospel. 12 For I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ.
Paul has told them he's not a man servant but rather a servant of Chri ...
