ILLUS.- I have no rhythm. Do you? I mean I've never been able to dance. I have to watch the drummer to be able to make sure I clap right. It's sad really. In high school a guy used to tell me... ''You have no rhythm in your jump shot.'' - I have so little rhythm it apparently stands out even when I play basketball! - Now rhythm is about staying on beat. It's about moving in sync with the music.

Christianity is meant to be lived in sync, in rhythm with the gospel. On beat. When we get out of rhythm, out of sync, out of step with the gospel... we get in and we cause all kinds of spiritual problems. - The gospel is to be the music we move to through life.

Paul implies that our conduct, thoughts, attitudes, pursuits and goals... should be in sync with the truth of the gospel because it should be shaping all of life.

In other words... the gospel should cast a wide shadow over our life.

Sometimes though even for the most devoted follower of Christ... our lives can get out step, out of sync... out of rhythm with the gospel. --- We live like the gospel is not true.

If you are not a Christ-follower... We are created by God to live in rhythm, in sync, in step with the gospel. - Our lives are filled with conflict, guilt, and riddled with brokenness when there is no gospel root.

In Galatians 2:11-21 we get a picture of what it looks like when someone gets out of rhythm with the gospel. When they have, in this case, conduct that doesn't sync with the gospel. Then we get Paul's response to this. Then we get a big dose of gospel clarity from Paul and a personal anthem from him of what it means to live in rhythm w/ the gospel.
