Galatians 5:13-26


There are three basic ways to live life this morning.

Morally- Seeking to best you are able live the right way by the law of morality, religion, etc. It's a frustrating way because you realize you can't be perfect at it.

Immorally- Living life to your enjoyment even breaking rules you know you should live by. But doing what you want giving little thought to ramifications beyond self.

Most people live life in a combo of these two realms. - We do some moral things, some immoral. The more religious the more moral usually, though not always. But both lack power. The mere moral person has not the power to really live up to even his own rules much less God's. In fact, he may lapse right into immorality. The immoral person finds himself or herself a slave to sinful habits. Their life gets wrecked by their choices.

These two ways are really one way. The way of the flesh. It's the way of living life as you want, in your power, for your glory. It's life void of a Savior. In fact, in both ways, you are your own Savior.

The Bible says Christian are to live an entirely different way. It's the way of the Spirit. It's a way of supernatural enablement. The Spirit enables us to live in obedience to God as He changes our desires, and empowers us to do God's will. He gives us victory over sin so that we can choose the right way. - You see what we need is not more rules, or less rules... what we need is not be free of our conscience and to live as we want. NO, what we need is HELP from an outside part. Every person who has looked in faith to Christ as Savior has the Spirit.

In Galatians Paul speaks to this way of life in 5:13-26. He is going to show us how our freedom in Chris tis to be Spirit-empowered. It's the only way to avoid both legalism and libertine lawlessness. If we are to be truly free, and also to not abuse freedom when we have it... we need the ...
