Acts- The story of God's Spirit working through God's people to accomplish God's Mission.

As you read through Acts you see God's Spirit is unstoppable. He's moving in power to accomplish God's will. God's gospel advancing mission is unstoppable, God's empowered people are unstoppable. -- Mocked, beaten, imprisoned, killed... the gospel goes on.

This series is called unstoppable because as a believer I want you to see that you are part of the unstoppable movement of God. You may feel unimportant or underwhelming, you may feel like you've wasted much of your life, but I'm telling you this morning that if you are a Christian you part of an unstoppable mission.

This morning we begin in Acts 1-2 with the birth of the church.

Some events change you forever.

ILLUS.- Trusting Jesus, marrying Kristi, having kids... all changed me forever.

Some moments change the world forever. Wheel, printing press, electricity, bacon.

In Acts 1-2 we have recorded for us the events around a world changing event that led to the birth of the Church. -- The world has never gotten over it.

Think about hospitals, schools, relief programs, provided by the church over the centuries.

Think about the countless lives that have been changed by the gospel.

The Church is God's vehicle for accomplishing His mission. The Church is not a building, it's not a program, it's God's people. And in the NT it is very clear its also a movement. You see in the church the movement of God's Spirit in and through God's people.

When churches get their eyes off the idea that we are moving, missional, people we begin to get attached to the wrong things: buildings, programs, traditions.

When we get our eyes off the missional movement we will become critics, spectators, consumers and we will stop being disciple makers.
