When a community is confronted with the the gospel of Jesus on the one hand...many in the city may experience renewal of a new life in Christ as they repent and believe the gospel. On the other hand many may rebel and fight against the gospel and try and snuff it out. This reaction in the city as people come to Christ and people work against the gospel is simply a reflection of what goes on in every human heart.

As the idols of your heart are confronted with the gospel you may experience repentance, you may experience deep change, and the power of the gospel at work in your life. However... many refuse to repent and seek to protect their personal idols and fight against gospel change in their own life.

Today we see the gospel has come to Ephesus and now Paul has come to sets up camp there for nearly 3 years to do gospel ministry.
What we see here are two pictures of responses to the gospel advancing... gospel ministry is done in a community these responses emerge.
Today as a people who seek live on mission in a gospel advancing church let's learn some things about gospel advance in a community and also about in our own lives.

Picture 1 - Repentant People
Acts 19:8-34- 8 And he entered the synagogue and for three months spoke boldly, reasoning and persuading them about the kingdom of God. 9 But when some became stubborn and continued in unbelief, speaking evil of the Way before the congregation, he withdrew from them and took the disciples with him, reasoning daily in the hall of Tyrannus. 10 This continued for two years, so that all the residents of Asia heard the word of the Lord, both Jews and Greeks.
